A note from the CEO
First, I want to thank the Board of Directors for allowing me to serve as CEO of the Barren County Family YMCA and be a part of an organization that not only gives back to the community but encourages lifelong relationships to be fostered with those of every walk of life. I am carrying on the dream of our great founder of this YMCA. The Barren County YMCA was formed back in 1980’s and opened its doors in 1992. The individuals who formed this organization were motivated and persistent in pursuing a goal of success for this community. The YMCA is a nonprofit 501(c)3 charity organization with a purpose to serve the needs of the community.
Mrs. Tara Bailey
1982- In 1982 Dr. Barret Lessenberry presented the idea of a YMCA to the Glasgow/Barren County community. It started in churches, homes and local businesses. March Working in partnership with the city, the Board purchases two abandoned warehouses on 58th Street and begins renovation.
1992– . The Barren County Family YMCA opened its doors, having an indoor pool, gymnasium, walking track, and nursery.
Today - After several renovations, our YMCA serves over 6500 members. We offer financial assistance to those in need. The YMCA strives to meet the needs of the community, and promote safe, communal, family oriented activities. Aside from being a gym with a state of the art Olympic size swimming pool we have two gymnasiums kids play zones and we even offer child watch for parents while they work out.
