I have been overweight and out of shape my entire life. I have never been what anyone would call active or health conscious but in April 2011, I saw myself in the mirror at my cousin’s wedding and I did not like what I saw. It was that night that I decided that I had had enough. Enough of my clothes not fitting properly, enough of people noticing me because of my weight first, and enough feeling that I would always be the overweight girl because that’s just who I was. I started a diet and I feel that it was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. The diet is helping me to change the way I eat but working at the YMCA has been my inspiration for exercising. I have seen countless people walk into our facility with the same goals to become healthy and to get in shape and I always wished that I could be that disciplined and dedicated. For the first time in my life I feel that this is a goal that I can reach. My fellow staff members have encouraged me through my transformation every step of the way. They give me words of encouragement and some work out along with me. Since beginning my diet and exercise plan I have lost a total of 78 lbs and I feel better and more confident than I have in years. The staff members and YMCA members have been so helpful to me during this time and I can’t thank them enough for the ability to work on my fitness goals while working at a job that I love so much.

I joined the YMCA in April of 2010. I was in a real bad shape with my weight. I had let food and not doing anything productive take over my life. A friend of mine was a member and talking to him made my mind up that I wanted to do something about it. I started a workout program taking baby steps because I was so out of shape. Day by day, week by week, I started to feel better. I totally changed the way I ate. I kicked soft drinks out and totally cut out fast food and anything fatty. As of a year later I am down to 170 lbs. The main thing to do if you want to change your health is never give up. I know from personal experience over the years of fighting this is very hard to do. But, believe me it is worth it knowing when you get out of bed every morning you do not have to live like that. Life is so much better being healthy. I had never been in a gym to workout before and was nervous, maybe insecure. But the people that workout there and the staff really make you feel at home. It is a great family atmosphere and my six year old loves going there when he's out of school to play and make new friends.
