New Updates

Our Dear YMCA Members,

I am writing this letter to you on behalf of the YMCA Board of Directors with some exciting news. The Barren County Family YMCA applied for and was awarded a grant to help us with our facility needs. You will see significant upgrades and changes to your facility over the coming months. The following is a list of items that will be upgraded or expanded upon in 2023:

  • Weight Room/Cardio/Spin Room Closed April 3-7. Old fitness equipment was removed, and painting, LED lighting, and new fitness equipment installed. (another workout area will be provided with limited equipment)

  • NO HOT WATER April 15 through May 1. Hot Water Boiler replacement and locker room are closed for painting.

  • Pool Closed from May 1 through May 15. LED lighting and new windows and doors installed, and the pool deck painted

  • Construction has begun on the new daycare area behind the large gym. The addition will allow us to move the daycare out of the small gym area and use it for other functions.

  • Exterior wall repairs have begun (some parking stops will be blocked off)

  • Upgraded security cameras in April

  • LED lighting throughout the facility (various times)

  • New doors and frames (various times)

  • Roof repairs – starting in April

  • HVAC controls that will help us better control usage and costs – starting in April

  • Refinishing floors in the large and small gym Gym(s) will be closed for about four weeks (Fall 2023)

  • Repaving the parking lot (Fall 2023)

As you can tell, this is a large project. Scott, Murphy & Daniel will be assisting us with renovations. As with any construction project, areas of the Y may be inaccessible during the construction period. We will make every effort to minimize the closing of any sites so contractors can finish the project as quickly and efficiently as possible. We ask for your patience during this time.   Members may experience minor inconveniences during our renovations, but we know the upgrades will be worth it. The plan is for all construction to be completed in late 2023.

Sincerely,

Corey Jackson

YMCA Board of Directors, Chairman

ABOUT

For over three decades, the Barren County Family YMCA has served residents of Barren and surrounding counties.  Founded on Valentine's Day, such a bold endeavor could only be borne out of love for community.

Spearheaded by Dr. Barrett Lessenberry and a small group of community-minded leaders, the support was tremendous and the idea for a YMCA, became a reality.

"The Y" has something to offer everyone, from Silver Sneakers for our members over 65, to youth sports for all ages, to our aquatics program which is open to all ages.

One of our proudest achievements is that, to date, around 45,000 young people (from five counties) have learned how to swim and how to be safe in and around water, at our Y, at no cost to them or their families.

The story of our Y is as bold and unique as the communities we serve.  Since opening our doors, we have grown with the community and are proud to be one of the oldest non-profits in the county.  Our YMCA is proof that you can have big ideas and do big things, even in small towns.  We are able to do all this because we know that "Together We Can Make A Difference".

Our Y is proof that you can indeed think and do big things in a little ole town like Glasgow-Barren County.

Move with purpose, Move with courage and Move with faith.

Our Best,

-Your YMCA Family
