The Barren County Family YMCA was founded on February 14th, 1992. The idea to start such a bold endeavor for Glasgow-Barren county was sparked by Dr.Barrett Lessenberry a proud Glasgow native. After receiving tremendous support from the community the Y was able to open its doors to the public and serve over 5,000 citizens annually. Our main hall graces the names and organizations that gave their generous support to the movement.
Since its inception, our YMCA has served free water safety and swim lessons to the fourth grade class of every school within the city and county. After 30 years that means our movement has served well over 45,000 children and expanded our reach to surrounding counties. Our Y also serves over 20 different group fitness classes, provides care and development for youth, supports senior engagement, and makes itself financially achievable for all walks of life. We turn no one away for an inability to pay.
The story of our Y is one of bold proportions. Since our first day, we have stood firm for our community and we will continue to do the same for the next thirty years. Our Y is proof that you can indeed think and do big things in a little ole town like Glasgow-Barren County. Move with purpose, Move with courage and Move with faith.
With everlasting appreciation
-Your YMCA Family
If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
